Fasting and shift work: a schedule worksheet

Map meals across rotating shifts and midnight, keep dates clear in your log, and understand the limits of a fixed daily fasting calculator.

Rotating shifts can make a fixed clock-based eating window impractical. Start with a worksheet for each shift type rather than copying a daytime timetable onto every week. This guide helps organise timing; it does not prescribe a fasting routine for shift workers.

Map one complete shift cycle

Write down shift start and finish, travel, sleep, meal breaks and any food-related medication instructions. Include dates when the shift crosses midnight.

For a shift from Monday 10 pm to Tuesday 6 am, a meal at 2 am belongs to Tuesday. Calling it “Monday night’s meal” is understandable in conversation, but the date in an app still needs to be Tuesday.

Identify which meals are flexible and which are required by work or care. Ask a qualified clinician about dietary changes, especially when work demands or treatment make meal timing important.

Do not confuse waking days with calendar days

Your personal day may run from afternoon to morning. Reset’s completed history uses local end dates. A session that begins after waking on Monday and ends on Tuesday appears with Tuesday’s finished sessions.

This can make a chart look different from your remembered sequence of shifts. It does not mean the app lost the first part of the interval.

Use a daily calculator only for a daily pattern

The schedule calculator assumes a repeating 24-hour day. It can illustrate one interval, but it does not create a rotating roster or account for a transition between day and night shifts.

Keep a separate written roster if you need one. Reset does not provide automatic shift-based meal planning.

Record changes without forcing continuity

When your shift pattern changes, record the actual times rather than stretching an interval to preserve a previous target. A break in a streak is less important than an accurate and workable record.

Read why a fast appears on a different date if the history grouping is confusing. If your main question is whether fasting is safe with your particular work and health circumstances, that requires individual advice rather than a calculator result.
